SMX is seeking a Technical Writer to translate complex data into user-friendly documents. This position is onsite supporting client locations in Corona and Fallbrook, CA.

As the Technical Writer, you will clearly and effectively communicate technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Prepare network engineering and architecture manuals, Installation, and implementation guides, CONOPS, SOP’s and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information more easily.

The Technical Writer oversees the editing of material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications. Edits documents by reviewing content for completeness, accuracy and correctness of language use and revises manuscripts to meet predetermined standards of style and accuracy. Looks for inconsistencies of thought, development, or organization. Confers with authors to recommend treatment of material. Reorganizes, cuts or rewrites as necessary. May edit copy as well. Verifies facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop document templates that are easy to adapt and apply
  • Manage document template configurations and document version control
  • Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation
  • Manage updates and revisions to technical literature
  • Editing may be substantive, including suggesting revisions to enhance clarity, persuasiveness, and effectiveness of the text’s organization
  • Organize and create smart structured digital content.
  • Organize complex information into a structure and flow that’s accessible to system administrators and end users
  • Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit operational procedures and manuals
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content
  • Plan and write documents that make complex solutions and data easy for end users and administrators to understand
  • Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods
  • Review published materials and recommend changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Clearance Required: Secret
  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience maintaining records and files of work, photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
  • Experience providing support in laying out material for publication, arranging for typing, duplication and distribution of materials.
  • Experience editing, standardizing, and making changes to material prepared by other technical and non-technical writers.
  • Strong technical writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Have a strong familiarity with grammar, spelling, and punctuation with a proven ability to write and edit digestible technical content,
  • Strong written communication, oral communication, inter-personnel skills with attention to details.
  • Highly self-motivated, independent and adaptable to learning and understanding new technologies
  • Able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet aggressive timelines
  • Excellent Visio skills, data-flow diagrams
  • Be thorough and pay attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient with all Microsoft 0365 applications/services/tools, especially, word, OneNote and Teams.
  • Must be able to present a portfolio of writing samples and/or previous work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Understanding of DoD/DoN IT programs and terminology.
